| This paper is concerned with determining the nature of and the relationships between movements in a number of New South Wales pig and pork price series. Spectral and cross-spectral methods are applied to some ten series differentiated by type of pig and market level. Results indicate that over the long term there are in general strong correlations between the various price pairings examined, but that in the shorter-run, price changes are not well reflected throughout the pig market. The role of imperfect information is noted as a major contributor to this observed short-run price independence. |

| No presente trabalho foi desenvolvida a primeira fase dos estudos experimentais do método da 2,2'-dipiridil cetoxima, para a determinação do cobalto. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em soluções puras e dentre os aspectos estudados constam; o reativo, preparo, concentração e conservação; o pH, influencia sobre a formação e extração do composto colorido; o sistema tampão, influencia sobre a reação, eficiência e escolha. Numa seqüência, serão apresentados posteriormente estudos sobre solventes, influência de diversos ions e aplicação do método em análises de plantas. |

| Foram continuados os estudos da parte experimental do método da 2,2'-dipiridil cetoxima, cuja finalidade é o estabelecimento de uma técnica adequada para a determinação do cobalto em material vegetal. Estudos sobre o preparo, concentração e conservação do reativo, sobre a influência do pH na formação e extração do composto colorido e sobre o sistema tampão, já foram efetuados na etapa inicial. Nesta oportunidade, procurou-se estudar o solvente; sua seleção, a sensibilidade, o tempo de extração, a influência do contato entre as fases e a estabilidade da cor do composto. |

| Neste trabalho foi realizado um estudo para avaliar os efeitos da irrigação e fertilizantes no rendimento, número e tamanho dos tubérculos de batata. A irrigação foi baseada na umidade média do solo quando atingia as tensões de 0,3; 0,6; 1,0; 3,0 e 10,0 bares. As doses de fertilizantes aplicadas foram de 40 kg/ha de N, 80 kg/ha de P2O5 e 40 kg/ha de K(2)0, sendo a dose 1, 40-80-40 kg/ha de N, P(2)0(5) e K(2)0, respectivamente. Os melhores rendimentos foram alcançados a tensões de umidade do solo menor do que 1,0 bar e as doses 3, 4 e 5 de fertilizantes. Não houve diferença significativa no número de tubérculos entre os tratamentos. | Recently I came across a portrait of Heinrich Bürger made when, as a secretary to Philipp Franz von Siebold, he visited Edo (now Tokyo) in 1826. This portrait is a rough sketch, and so far probably is the only portrait of him in existence. It was made by Watanabe-Kwazan (written also as Kwazan Watanabe after the western manner), an eminent artist, who, at that time, was also highly distinguished as a scholar of western thinking, a consequence of his Dutch learning. The present sketch was found in a collection of Watanabe's works owned by an old family, Kasuya by name, residing in the town of Kira in Aichi Prefecture. | Certain market allocation problems involving linear average net revenue functions can be solved by linear programming. The technique can be applied to an objective function derived from linear marginal net revenue functions, the objective being to force each marginal net revenue as near to zero as possible given the constraint set. If a particular problem is suited to a linear programming solution, researchers may prefer to use this technique rather than more sophisticated optimization methods. |
